Just off the southwestern shore of Denton County’s Lewisville Lake and east of Interstate 35E is the laid back, community-oriented city of Highland Village. About 30 miles north of the center of Dallas, the city is a great alternative to some of the congested, urban communities of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The population is about 17,000 and growing, as property seekers continue to recognize the excellent quality of life that is afforded by Highland Village. The community was initially known as a weekend vacation spot for Dallas’ urban dwellers. In the 1960s a group of individuals incorporated the city after deciding to make permanent residences out of their vacation homes. The population grew to about 5,000 by the mid-1980s and has almost tripled since.

Residents appreciate the quality of the life created by low crime, good schools and the quiet, lakeside surroundings. Public schooling in the region is provided by the Lewisville Independent School District. Highland Village students are served by three elementary campuses, one middle school and one high school. The local economy provides many different types of employment opportunities for residents, but the largest employing sectors are education, health and social services, professional services, retail trade, manufacturing and transportation, warehousing and utilities.
