Just off a southwestern shore of Denton County’s Lewisville Lake, east of Interstate 35E, is the laid back, community-oriented city of Highland Village. About 30 miles north of the center of Dallas, the city is a great alternative to some of the congested, urban communities of the Dallas - Fort Worth Metroplex. The population is about 14,000 and growing, as property seekers continue to recognize the excellent quality of life available in the community. The community was initially known as a weekend vacation spot for Dallas’ urban dwellers. In the 1960s a group of individuals incorporated the city after deciding to make permanent residences out of their vacation homes. The population grew to about 5,000 by the mid-1980s and has almost tripled since.
